I have been living in Dublin for close to a month now and can safely say coming here has been one of the best decisions I have made. I had previously traveled to Europe with my parents, but Champlain Abroad has been a different, more satisfying experience. While I have the dorm experience, sharing an apartment with fellow Champlain College students, I am immersed in the city of Dublin, Ireland rather than a closed campus. The areas outside my apartment are dominated by old style architecture, with stoned wall and Georgian doors. It is incredibly fascinating to just take a stroll around the city and absorb it all.
Champlain Abroad had given each student a handbook before arrival with a suggestion of things to do, atm machines and grocery store locations, and other nifty pieces of advice. I quickly hit up Thomas Street to get some delicious food and Henry Street for a little retail therapy. Although the weather has been fantastic lately, the rain jacket I purchased has definitely been useful.
One of the best things I have experienced during Champlain Abroad was a trip to Western Ireland. The college sponsored a weekend trip to Western Ireland, including a trip to Doolin Village in County Clare and the city of Galway. On the way we took little side trips such as to the Cliffs of Moher (absolutely STUNNING) and to a sheep farm in the mountains. Although there were no lambs on the farm currently, the adult sheep were still very cuddly and friendly. I only wish I had more time at each location for extra exploration, so I may plan a trip of my own in the near future.
