In true Champlain College fashion, Champlain Abroad Dublin offers so many events to its students. This past semester there have been tons of things to do! When Monday rolls around, the big calendar in the Academic Center is filled to the brim with new and exciting activities happening all around Dublin. Believe me when I say there’s something for everyone; you’re never left wondering where’s the craic?
Champlain students have gone to Northern Ireland and the west coast of Ireland. We’ve immersed ourselves into one of Ireland’s biggest traditions: Gaelic spots. Other activities this semester have been hikes, day trips to the towns of Bray and Dún Laoghaire, volunteering at the Web Summit, karaoke at local pubs- the list goes on!
This week Champlain students were offered something out of the norm: a spot in Run in the Dark. Run in the Dark is an annual charity race that takes place in 50 cities worldwide to honor Mark Pollock. Mark Pollock lost his eyesight in 1998 and in 2010 damaged his spine, leaving him paralyzed. Run in the Dark’s proceeds goes to the Mark Pollock Trust to help fast-track a cure to paralysis.
The 5th annual Run in the Dark happened on Wednesday, November 11. 9,000 runners met up in Dublin at the Custom House and 27 of those participants were Champlain Abroad Dublin students! We were given a number with a tracker, a light up armband and a goodie bag. For many of us, this event was our first try at a 5K. Whether students ran the whole 5K, jogged or had walking buddies, everyone had fun going out for a great cause.
Thank you, Champlain Abroad Dublin, for sponsoring us and allowing us to be a part of something so special!
