After my weekend in Quebec City, if one were to ask me where’s the best place to eat, Café du Monde would definitely be my top recommendation.
Don’t get me wrong, there many other restaurants that serve good food in Quebec City; however, besides Le Cochon Dingue, Café du Monde is a strong competitor, the front-runner for the title of “the best meal I had in the city.” I have to give it the crown. In fact, this is a place where I can confidently take or refer any of friends to (unfortunately, I won’t be back anytime soon). Having been there before with other students, I think Gigi purposefully planned it this way; the best restaurant for last.
Located next to the cruise terminal in the Old Port of Quebec City, Café du Monde is a large, Parisian-style space with a spectacular view of the waterfront. The friendly staff and a unique environment make it a wonderful venue for family diner, birthday parties or some romantic time a deux. The décor has that business-casual feel to it to the point that all the other well-dressed patrons made feel a bit under-dressed.
The extensive menu can accommodate many tastes and budgets. The thinly chopped onions mixed with finely cut spinach and rocket combined with cube-cut potatoes were a great addition to La Fermiere, an egg-Benedict-like meal served with pulled duck, topped with two poached eggs, grated cheddar cheese and Hollandaise sauce. It was a rich and flavorful brunch cooked to perfection. Additionally, there is a creative wine list served in glass, coupled with a plethora of French deserts to choose from. It was the perfect restaurant experience in Quebec City.
If you are in the area and looking for good place to relax while enjoying a pleasing meal, Café du Monde is the place to start, the staff speaks fluent English there.
