The Champlain Dublin group went to a live viewing of Shite Talk: Irish History Podcast on March 6th for our Irish Life and Culture course. The podcast is run by comedians Jason Brennan and Kevin Larney. Historian Donal Fallon was a special guest. In the show, they trade fun and bizarre stories of Ireland’s past mixing history with comedy in a fun and engaging way.

The specific episode that we went to was about Éamon de Velera, a former Taoiseach (prime minister) and former President of Ireland. De Velera is often portrayed in the media, specifically in the movie Michael Collins, in a negative light. However, while he was in charge, he was very well liked and repeatedly voted back into office. He was also famous for having been a commandant of the Irish Volunteers during the 1916 Easter Rising.

If you are interested in hearing more about De Valera’s life and the contentious opinions and rumors around him, or learning about other areas of Irish history, definitely listen to some of their episodes on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
